And so it begins….

Today marks the day that I will begin to pursue a money making venture in the wonderful world of Affiliate Marketing. If you have no idea what Affiliate Marketing is then you need to head on over to Wikipedia and see for yourself. This blog will be my outlet to you and will show every single step that I take to success, or maybe even failure. I plan on making public everything except for the niches that I choose to make money with, no matter if I lose 200 bucks, or purchase an e-book, I will share it. The idea is that maybe if I show you some of the things that I had success and/or failure with then maybe in some way it can help you. If not, then hell, it might just be a little entertaining also ;).

So…..let’s get you caught up on my progress so far. Late last year I started reading the blogs of successful Affiliate Marketers like Jeremy Schoemaker, John Chow and especially Paul Bourque of Uberaffiliate.com. These websites, and really uberaffiliate.com have got me fired up about Affiliate Marketing and the possibility of making it a successful career.

While browsing the three sites I mention above I have come across a lot of ebooks, two of which I really like (actually these are the only two I have read so far lol, but they have really gotten me motivated and on the right track). The first one is quite helpful and really helped me set up this page, it is by Caroline Middlebrook (also an affiliate marketer) and is called “How to Develop Money-Making Niche Sites with Wordpress” and has been really helpful for me while I have been getting started. The second one is Adsense Arbitrage by Brad Callen, this book really got me fired up and curious about the possibilities of making ALOT of money from Affiliate Marketing.

After reading those two ebooks, and many posts on many Affiliate Marketing websites I figured I might as well give this damn thing a shot, everyone that is successful encourages you to jump right in and get started. So, I went and bought myself a domain name Newbaffiliate.com, obviously inspired by Uberaffiliate.com and some hosting at Bluehost.com. And that is pretty much where I am at right now. Here are my goals for the upcoming week:

  1. Work on Newbaffiliate.com (About page, more posts and some more content)
  2. Get some capitol (1000$ to get myself started maybe?)
  3. Work on getting myself approved with some ad networks (Azoogle, Neverblue, Hydra, etc…)
  4. Brainstorm on some ideas and start to educate myself on Keywords and some available programs
  5. Start a new Bank account and get a Credit card that has some good rewards

I doubt anyone is reading this page yet lol, but if you want to get in contact with me or you need to ask some questions, hit me up at Andrew@newbaffiliate.com

  1. Hi Andrew, congratulations on getting started! You’re already way ahead of most people just for doing that. I’m really glad that I helped in some small way. I’ll give your new blog a mention in my weekend links post :-)

Btw, I am a strong believer in the fact that you don’t need money to get started. I wouldn’t bother trying to get capital because it will just encourage you to burn through it and that could discourage you.

  2. Sounds like a great start to me. You could have a go at it with much less then $1000 so the capital isn’t a big need.

  3. People read it, good luck with the journey. I’m proud to be the first ever commentor ;)

  4. Good luck!

  5. Nice to see a fellow newb bloggig about his startup. I’m at about the same position except that I have started small SEM campaigns with Yahoo. Best of luck. I’ll be following your progress and hopefully share some ideas back and forth.

  6. Wow, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posted a comment. I really didn’t think I had anyone reading me yet, what a confidence boost!

Caroline - Thanks for the tips and especially thanks for the mention, I love your site and all the resources that you offer.

  7. Found you through a post on Uberaffiliate and felt really good that you are documenting your journey on this blog. Never forget your goals.

  8. [...] And So It Begins… - This is the very first post from Andrew Stone who has just started a new blog about affiliate marketing. I am giving this a bit of a plug as he’s used my ebook to help him get started :-) [...]

  9. I’ll second Caroline’s comment - you don’t really need that much money to start something like this - really just hosting, domain and Adwords, etc costs.

On the other hand if you were quitting your job for this, you’d need a lot more money for you, until this starts earning you enough.

PS *grumble*grumble* Damn CommentLuv for not picking up my last post - I’ve got a vanilla feed from a header link…

  10. Ahh, oops wrong comment for the CommentLuv gripe :P

  12. As a HUGE fan of Caroline’s blog, how could I not stop by and give you encouragement!! Andrew, I’ve been doing the same things you have been, and did the 30-Day Challenge, but I can’t quite kick myself in the butt to start a blog yet. The mere fact that you did is enormously impressive to me. Can’t wait to read more!

  13. Hi Andrew

I agree with other commenters that you really don’t need much capital to start up a blogging business, that’s one of the beauties of it!

I recently posted about my start up costs on my blog here http://probloggingmother.com/?p=4

  14. Kathy,
If i were you I would go ahead and start a blog, hell, why not? I am having a ton of fun writing posts, experimenting with Wordpress and Adsense, and also have my own domain has enable me to get access to some affiliate networks. If you start up using Bluehost, as in Caroline’s book, make sure to use her links so she gets paid for it, after all she deserves something for that awesome free Ebook. Thanks so much for commenting.
